Client Care

The information set out below is required by the Rules of Conduct and Client Care for Lawyers on the New Zealand Law Society (“NZLS”).

 1.     Professional Indemnity insurance
We hold professional indemnity insurance that meets or exceeds the minimum standards specified by the NZLS.

 2.     Extent of liability
As a general rule, our liability is limited to the maximum cover provided by its professional indemnity insurance policy.

3.     Complaints
We strive to provide a quality service and are always seeking to improve. If you have a concern or are unhappy about any aspect of service provided, we encourage you to inform us so the issue can be managed promptly and fairly.

You can do this by contacting the person handling your work, or by emailing admin@MDLawyers.co.nz.

You may also make a complaint the Lawyers Complaint Service, which is operated by the NZLS. Further information about the Complaints Service and how to make a complaint can be obtained by calling 0800 261 801.

4.     Client Care and Service
As part of providing client care and services, our team will:

  • Act competently, in a timely way and in accordance with instructions reviewed and arrangements made.

  • Protect and promote your interests and act for you free from compromising influences and loyalties.

  • Discuss with you your objectives and how they should best be achieved.

  • Provide you with information about the work to be done, who will do it and the way the services will be provided.

  • Charge you according to the agreed fee and let you know how and when you will be billed.

  • Give you clear information and advice.

  • Protect your privacy and ensure appropriate confidentiality.

  • Treat you fairly, respectfully and without discrimination.

  • Keep you informed about the work being done and advise you when it is completed.

  • Let you know how to make a complaint and deal with any complaint promptly and fairly.

The obligations lawyers owe to clients are described in the Rules of Conduct and Client Care for Lawyers. These obligations are subject to other overriding duties that lawyers have, such as duties to the Court and to the justice system.
